The defect lifecycle is the specific set of states a bug or defect goes through from the time it is found by a tester until it is verified as fixed and closed.

Details

Typical states include New, Assigned, In Progress, Fixed, Ready for Test, Verified, and Closed. Sometimes bugs can also be marked as Duplicate, Deferred, or Rejected.
